The Komedia is first and
foremost a cabaret venue, serving up a mixed grill of
theatre, music and comedy; but if you've booked your
ticket for a show there, you could do much worse than
accompany it with a side-dish of pre-cabaret din-dins.
You can reserve a table when you buy your tickets -
marvellous.
When I visited, I went with two friends to see the
wonderful Richard
Herring. We chose a main dish each, and one tapas
dish each, and shared the tapas. We also had some extra
bread - this all came to about £32 each which
at a tenner a head for a go on five dishes, is very
reasonable. I had Chestnut and Wild Mushroom Pie. All
I can say is - YUM! 10/10 for that on its own. It came
in a round pie dish, with a mighty crust of honey-brown
pastry, with a beautiful gravy and whole mushrooms and
chestnuts in a slightly spicy sauce. Our tapas were
Marinated Olives and Caperberries (wow), Stuffed Vine
leaves (not to my taste, but my friends assured my they
were The Business), and Tortilla Espanole (again, not
my choice, but perfectly serviceable). The bread was
assorted kinds and came from The
Eagle Bar & Bakery.
The red house wine was very acceptable and not ludicrously
priced. All in all, a wonderful place to scoff; candle-lit
tables, slightly uncomfortable chairs admittedly, and
a cabaret audience ambience. It's just a shame its not
open for non-theatregoers!
